Scientific American App Reviews

Review

Every time some new approach is taken, there are always critics. But Scientific American is great as it is

Great but Subscriber Info Lacks

I always seem to be asked to buy an issue even though I have subscribed. Last time I logged out then back in and then could download the current issue. However the issue presentation often beats print.

The Worst!

Irritating and unusable. If it was free it would be a waste of time. Get the paper version. Hard to believe how bad it is.

Wonderful

I have been reading SA for over fifty years. Im trying to eliminate paper. This does a great job of providing all the content.

Rip Off

The app is flaky at best and losses your purchases. I stopped subscribing and it now eont let me load issues I had when I was subscribing. Wrote them an email a week ago and still no response. Dont subscribe through this app

Clunky

Seems like both the website and the iPad app have had problems for a couple of years that have not been addressed. I got an e-mail verifying my renewal today that contained a link to my subscription. Using that link, I got a page that said, "We have moved," and gave another link to get to the magazine. Since SciAm just sent me that link, why havent they updated it to take me to the address that theyve move to? Additionally, on the iPad app, I have to re-registered my subscription if I have accessed it for a few weeks. After I do that, I have access to the digital issues, but I dont understand why I have to keep re-registering. This annoying problem has been true for previous versions of the iPad app. Despite these problems, I think the SciAm content is great and it has kept me as a long-term subscriber.

Ignorant

Seems to forget subscription data all the time. Painful.

So far so good

Im one issue in using the app and I have had no problems.

Annoying

This version cant figure out that I have a subscription, and convincing it to download requires annoyances that are not worth bothering with. The good news is that it when it does download, it does so quickly, which is better than the last version, which ALWAYS failed to completely download, requiring me to resort to the print copy. You should do more work on this app.

Better now

There have been a number of syncing problems, but the system seems to be working better now. However, once synced, the app works nicely.

Still not syncing

The app is an improvement over the previous version but every month it forgets Im have a subscription and want me to buy the new issue. I have to delete the app and install it before it behaves correctly.

Too annoying

If I dont use the app for a few days it signs me out and I lose all downloads. I have to sign in again and download everything from scratch. The entire point of iPad magazines is to have them available while traveling. What am I supposed to do when all my purchased magazines are suddenly wiped out and I have just boarded a cross-Atlantic flight?! Also, every time you open the app it takes you to the main library. You have to remember which months issue you were reading and which page to go to if you want to pick up where you left off.

Excellent articles are efficiently presented

Ive been able to log in via iPad with no issues. I prefer the digital interface to the print version because navigation is easy and intuitive. I can efficiently move between articles and quickly focus on what I want to read, rather than accepting the editors order. The illustrations are clean and crisp. Overall the format is highly engaging.

Terrible

I havent been able to access back issues since I subscribed and havent gotten any response to emails. It is impossible to talk to a person when you live in Alaska and have a 4 hour time difference M- F. Dont subscribe unless you want these and all the other problems listed by others....BIG MISTAKE

Terrible

It barely does anything. It frequently does not recognize my subscription and tries to charge me for issues. A very disappointing app from a very good magazine.

Keep having to logout and then back in.

Whomever implemented this app should be fired. It looses your account data. It does not automatically download issues updates. Layout and text reflow is very poor. Is just awful...

Terrible

The SA IPad app will not allow me to open any of the monthly issues. I currently have e-subscriptions to Nature and Science and they work well with me. This is is ridiculous!

A Great Magazine

This is one of my favorite magazines! I dont have a lot problems at this time.

junk

this is junk. second time in two months that i am bounced. i paid for a multi-year subscription. was enrolled and received monthly volumes. this app does not know me Grrrr. thinking that Nature is a better idea.
