Scientific American App Reviews

Im not sure why there are so many such poor reviews, the new app is just fine. I am glad I can finally use it in landscape mode. Yes, it seems some of the interactive options are gone, and it does feel more like a series of PDFs, but I subscribe for the content, not the app.

This app is very different from usual e-book, designed specifically for electronic format. It is amazing and a fun to play with though, the User Interface needs refinement. Now it is hard to find buttons to navigate where I want to go. Nevertheless, I would like to admire the efforts to change our concept on e-books.

After upgrading to iOS8, I couldnt read books on my iPad2 and iPad mini. So, I deleted the app and reinstalled, several times. I could read the books on iPad mini, but on iPad2, I couldnt.

SciAm still has the content, and while Im glad theyre continuing to work on the app interface, Im not yet sure about this latest version. Being able to read in landscape or portrait view and change font size are welcome, but navigation within the app has lost some clarity and simplicity. Heres to further improvements.

That app should be updated since it can not download magazines.

I have reloading issue for my SA magazine and the Mind magazine.

Unclear text, poor quality of graphics, only vertical position of reading...

It doesnt work with iOS 8. The issues starts to download but during the reading, the app crashes and it isnt possible again to download it and the read the issues.

Please update your SA app. I cannot download boh my new and previous issues.

Fully disappointed after passing to iOS 8. The app breaks down continuously. I cant read the magazine.

Eng: a phantastic app, for the Best scientific magazine in the world (for me). Old iPad app great.Especially liked extra free special issues like one on food and one on gut biome. New app does not have special issues available. Also had to redownload prior purchased issues. The download now takes sometimes 20-30 minutes to achieve and often had to repeat process to look at old issue. It is as if I now borrow issue and have to give back. This would be ok except I thought I purchased magazine. Could have fooled me.OOPs I guess you did. Will no longer purchase this and may never buy or read again. Sad I as have been reader of store bought paper mag for 30 some odd years or so. New is not always better.

Ive been trying on and off for four days and have yet to get a complete issue. Some parts download, other keep showing a progress bar that gets about 80% done, but then fails. This is very frustrating because I really want this on my iPad, and the parts of the publication that I have managed to get look great. I am shocked that tis publication has released such a defective product.

Not only is the subscription expensive but it doesnt work. Over the last year I have had frequent problems with downloading issues. The most frequent error is "server not available". In fact, I have not been able to download the last two issues. In addition the app apparently signs me out and the will not allow me to sign in again. For $34.99 I should get something that works. I have just cancelled my renewal. I have kept the app and my OS updated.

The app crashes and is slow. I was only a ble to get a few of the issues I paid for and lost those when I was told to reinstall the app. Customer service is useless and would not refund my money because I was outside the 5 day terms of conditions. They did cancel my renewal for me though. Thats what they call customer service! Buy at your own risk!!!

Irritating and unusable. If it was free it would be a waste of time.

Cant download issues, unable to connect to server errors. Spending better than a day trying to download April 15 to no avail. Need to call apple and cancel subscription

Im a subscriber with digital subscriptions but I cant sign in. I can sign in the browser using the same email and password.

The major reason why I read magazines on iPad is that I can enlarge the text to a size that I can read easily. The printed version has such fine prints that I have given up reading Scientific American on paper. Now the new update of this Scientific American app does not allow us to enlarge text at all! Also, we cannot read the articles in Landscape mode. We are forced to read the articles in Portrait mode only! That makes the default text size even smaller. Please let us read in Landscape mode and let us enlarge the text size.

This app is unusable - it will not fully download an issue - error messages indicate it cannot connect to server at about 25%. There is no support link in the app and deleting/reinstalling doesnt help. The app engine appears to be similar to Sport Illustrated & other magazine apps which work fine - unsure why Scientific American cant work right (ironic as that may seem for a science publication).
